The living wall, lives on!
The site on California Road in Huntingdon is a development of many firsts for both the client, and Burmor. Using the Eco-200 panel system from LoCal homes, moving away from gas and using ground source heat pumps, and quicker builds improving thermal efficiency and air tightness make for future proof and sustainable homes for residents.
It is important to Burmor, the client, and Huntingdon District Council that everyone should live in a safe, high quality home regardless of their family makeup, health, income or stage of life.
In keeping with the theme of the site, and it’s drive for a safer, greener, and healthier space for communities, we have implemented small contributors to encourage bio-diversity throughout the duration of the project. At the site entrance, we had two living walls; what was the purpose of them?
Living walls are known to:
remove air pollutants
reduce urban temperatures
thermal benefit to buildings
improves bio-diversity
Now the project is steering toward completion and the hoarding panels have come down, Huntingdon Regional College’s horticultural team expressed an interest in taking the wall, nurturing the plants, and mounting them at the Huntingdon or Cambridge college campus. The team came to collect them last week and will be keeping in touch with Burmor about the progress, and we hope to visit the campus to see how they are being used.
What a great way to continue the living wall journey! We hope the students and faculty get enjoyment out of it.
