Inspiring the next generation

A recent visit to Monkshouse Primary School in Spalding sparked lots of creative fun for the students and the Burmor team!

We had the opportunity to visit the Nursery and Year 1 students at the school and had a full day of fun activities planned for them. We spent the morning with Year 1 students, taking old cable reels from the warehouse. We purchased paints, stickers, stamps and, to their delight, glitter to decorate the reels for their outdoor play space. It was rewarding to see them get stuck into mixing colours, making patterns and working, as a team, successfully covering every surface of the reel!

We then held a pre-lunch story time and read Molly in Construction, talking the children through the construction journey and giving them insight into our day-to-day work. We donated two books to the school's library and a mud kitchen for their outdoor play area.

After lunch, we met the Nursery children and participated in a messy play session. They took full advantage of the new Burmor children's hi-vis to paint their reel - which they gladly kept for their dressing-up box! Luke then had the privilege of reading their afternoon story, and our day closed.

‘On behalf of all the Year 1 and Nursery staff and children I'd like to say a big thank you for coming in last week and working with us. The children enjoyed painting the reels and working outside with you both. Thank you for the books and reading to all the children, it's always fantastic to have guest readers. The mud kitchen is such a generous donation to our new Year 1 outdoor area, thank you very much. The children will enjoy creating and writing about their recipes all year round’ - Helen, Monkshouse Primary School

We support the industry's drive to provide children with an open door, helping them learn about construction and become a part of our industry's future growth. However, Burmor also encourages the team to step out into the communities we build in and give back.
