Do a good turn daily!

The title above is a well recognised slogan used by the scouts that means doing something to help others each day without expecting anything in return. It means that Scouts do their part to care for the community and the environment.

Burmor, since starting work at Gaul Road in March, have struck up a positive relationship with the Scouts through our ongoing support at The Three Fishes Campsite which is bang next door. The Three Fishes Campsite is owned by Fenland District Scouts and principally serves Scout groups (8 groups) across Fenland. It provides safe, accessible, and affordable outdoor space which groups use to camp but also use through the week for evening meetings. Their groups in March, Doddington and Chatteris don't have good access to safe enclosed outdoor space and this is the site they all use when planning outdoor sessions (campfires, campfire cooking, outdoor games, sessions in the dark etc). The site is managed by Fenland District Scouts, of which all members are volunteers, and it relies on volunteers giving up their time to look after the site so it is usable for our Squirrels (4-6yrs),  Beavers (6-8yrs), Cubs (8-10yrs), Scouts (10-14yrs) and Explorers (14-18yrs) .

Sean McCarthy (Site Manager) and Jack Wycherley (Assistant Business Manager) have been liaising with Katie Leach who is one of 10 trustees for Fenland District Scouts, about how we can support them as a valued neighbour whilst the project at Gaul Road is live. As the saying says above, ‘doing something to help others each day without expecting anything in return’, we are keen to provide value and invest time and resource into the community.

So far, Burmor have helped by clearing vegetation from the west boundary at Three Fishes with the help of Durman Stearn who are currently carrying out works on site.

Katie had this to say ‘ It’s made a massive difference and reclaimed a lot of ground, the work is really appreciated. Thank you!’

Burmor are continuing their support with The Fenland District Scouts with other projects lined up and not only that, are hoping to engage some of the different age groups with our sites, aligning with our social value commitments across March and Chatteris. Watch this space!
