Cresset Day Centre - Small works project completes for Council.

Burmor are pleased to announce that the agreed refurbishment of the Day Care Centre WC within the Cresset has now been completed for Peterborough County Council.

Cresset Day Centre:

The Peterborough City Council’s day service offers a safe and friendly environment for older people who might be finding it difficult to get out and about, and need a bit of help and support. Coming to the day service can help people to stay independent, keep well, and remain living in their own homes for as long as possible - offering a chance to enjoy some friendship while being well cared for. Attending the day service can also provide a much needed break for carers who live at home, and help to reduce and prevent falls. The Peterborough day service is based at the Cresset, Bretton Centre. Door to door transport with carers is provided as standard. The day service opens 5 days a week Monday to Friday (except over Christmas and on Bank Holidays). The service is provided in safe, relaxed and comfortable surroundings by well trained staff who support people respectfully and sensitively with their personal care needs. The day service is well equipped to help people who find it difficult to get around and need support with their personal care needs, including those who may suffer from dementia or other life-limiting illnesses.

A closer look:

On Thursday 30th October 2024, Jack Wycherley (Assistant Business Manager) was able to visit the now handed over project, where he was greeted by Darren Green and his team, and also Dawn Williams (Day Centre Manager) who was able to share a few words about what it means to the service users.

“Each week we have an attendance of 48 residents, some who attend every day. The residents have a range of disabilities including Dementia, Parkinsons and some with mobility issues, all of whom will be better catered for with the recent refurbishments meaning they can now solely use this facility rather than going elsewhere. The centre provides a sanctuary where residents feel safe and can keep fit and strong with the activities and meals provided for them. Some residents may not have any other interaction throughout the week, therefore this is a vital service and a stronghold in the elderly community where most call it their home.”

Darren and his team are delighted with how the project has turned out, especially as the service has now been running for over 40 years and is now the City’s only ‘old people’s day centre’. The refurb has given the centre a new lease of life and now can be used to it’s full potential for years to come.
