Learn, Explore, Succeed!

Burmor Construction was delighted to visit the Peterborough-based project, IntoUniversity, in a recent after-school activity session with their primary school group. The project, in partnership with Anglia Ruskin University, aims to help young people growing up in Britain's most disadvantaged neighbourhoods by offering a safe space for them to grow and succeed with the support of their local community team.

It was a pleasure, and a privilege, to open the student's eyes to the world of construction; Quantity Surveyor and CIOB Tomorrow’s Leaders Representative, Scott Drewery, did an excellent job of engaging the students and involving them in one of his upcoming projects. The after-school curriculum focused on perimeters, and Scott used the designs and drawings from his project in South St, Stanground, to task the children with helping him measure the perimeters on site - we certainly had some future Quantity Surveyors on our hands! We assigned two team leaders who proudly sported the Burmor hard hat and hi-vis, leading their peers through the challenging activities, practising teamwork, mathematical skill and achieving excellent results.

At the end of the session, we left the children with ‘homework’ to create an A4 design of what construction means to them, which will be collected by the Burmor team and proudly displayed on the hoardings at South St; look out for those!

In an ongoing bid to support the IntoUniversity mission and the young people in Peterborough, Burmor is committed to giving back time and resources to contribute to their drive, ensuring they have the skills and opportunities they need to break the disadvantage cycle.
