Engineers - Assemble!

Since the start of 2023, Burmor Construction have been working with IntoUniversity, supporting their mission to break down the stigma of social mobility and inspire children to achieve their academic and career ambitions. We have the resource, the ability, and the passion to take help take those strides alongside our industry, and the education industry, so that students are provided with equal opportunities.

Every session that we have participated in with the IntoUniversity team and the local schools has been rewarding, but this particular event was exceptional; we got to see the students on site experiencing construction first hand, and witness the merging of the classroom and the workplace.

The day started at our project on South St in Stanground for client, Cross Keys Homes; a project awarded to us through the Procure Partnerships Framework. As the focus for the week was Engineering, Quantity Surveyor, Scott Drewery, spoke at length with the students about the engineering behind building homes (and the exciting machinery involved!). They moved on to our site with Accent Group at Trelowen Way in Peterborough, where they got to play the QS role by participating in a measuring activity in one of the newly built properties, and also help our Defects team by noting any snags.

After a quick break, they were then split into groups back at the IntoUniversity centre where they had the opportunity to build their very own mini timber frame homes. The group of students were a credit to their school; they were engaging, innovative, and fantastic to work alongside.

A huge shoutout to the Burmor team, clients and stakeholders who invested time into making the day a success.

We know construction is making huge efforts to drive change, and we are aware that communities need more support beyond the build; Burmor are proud to be champions of both.
