Breaking Ground Ceremony
Work underway on 50 new affordable homes for March
Addressing the pressing need for accessible and quality housing, Burmor Construction proudly introduced their latest project on Norwood Road to esteemed guests from Fenland District Council in a ‘breaking ground’ ceremony.
The development is poised to bring 50 new affordable homes to the heart of March, comprising of all affordable rent properties. Completion on the site, supported by grant funding from Homes England, is expected in November 2025.
Collaborating once again with our returning client, Accent Housing, Burmor embarks on pioneering yet another development that harnesses modern construction methods to deliver not only on affordability but also sustainability. Anticipating an EPC-A rating, these homes stand to be remarkably energy-efficient, promising reduced energy wastage and more economical energy bills compared to dwellings with lower ratings.
The news comes after Accent Housing and Burmor announced last month that construction was also about to get underway on 50 new homes for affordable rent in Fairbairn Way, Chatteris.
Both schemes are part of wider development ambitions for Accent across Fenland and nearby Huntingdonshire and Cambridgeshire,
Sarah Ireland, Executive Director of Strategy and Growth at Accent Housing said: “Accent are delighted to be working with Burmor, as contractor on this construction project, once again. The 50 new homes at Norwood Road will be available for affordable rent, allowing local families and couples to build a life in a thriving market town community. Accent are committed to helping tackle the national housing crisis by developing and providing safe, sustainable homes. We look forward to welcoming our Norwood Road customers to the Accent Family during 2025.”
Sam Harwin, Associate Director at Burmor Construction said: "Hosting guests from Fenland District Council at our March site provided a valuable opportunity to showcase Burmors ongoing dedication to delivering high-quality, affordable homes for communities within the district. We are pleased to once again collaborate with our valued client, Accent Housing, on projects like Norwood Road. Together, we share a passion for constructing homes using methods that not only cater to present needs but also future-proof for generations to come. These approaches not only support financial stability for residents but also address the soaring cost of living by significantly lowering energy bills."
Accent Housing and Burmor are pleased to be working on the project with Fenland District Council, which gave planning consent for the new homes to go ahead.
Cllr Sam Hoy, Fenland District Council Portfolio Holder for Housing, said: “Affordable homes are more important than ever, so I’m delighted to see this project in the heart of March gaining momentum. High-quality, affordable homes are what people and families want and what Fenland needs, so we’re pleased to support Accent Housing and Burmor in bringing forward this scheme and others in Fenland.”
Throughout the course of this project, Burmor and Accent Housing are committed to generating an estimated £2 million in social value return. This significant contribution is made possible through their use of the local supply chain and steadfast community support initiatives. By engaging and empowering local businesses within our supply chain, Burmor aim not only to bolster the regional economy but also to foster sustainable growth within the community. Their collaborative efforts extend beyond construction, ensuring that their presence actively benefits the surrounding neighbourhoods; they are dedicated to leaving a lasting and positive impact. This anticipated social value return reflects a shared commitment to not only building homes but also nurturing thriving and interconnected communities for years to come.
