Burmor Charity Football Tournament 2024
Last weekend saw the biggest footballing event in the calendar take place once again. No! Not Euro 2024, but The Burmor Charity Football Tournament of course.
The event as you know is in memory of our previous Contracts Manager, Chris Dowd, who suffered from a heart attack back in 2017 and was cared for in Papworth Hospital, and unfortunately passed away in 2018.
12 teams took to the field this year for a chance to get their hands on the Chris Dowd Memorial Shield, and it was Accio that came out on top, so many congratulations to them! We’ll see next year whether they can retain the title. Unfortunately, Burmor (2022 Champions) were knocked out in the quarter finals, but what an experience for the newbies of the team! Who will make the cut for next year’s squad?
Nearly £3000 was raised for our two chosen charities, British Heart Foundation and The UK Sepsis Trust which is a figure that has increased on last year’s proceeds. We have pledged a donation to the UK Sepsis Trust this year following our Director Luke's recent illness and so we have opted to raise funds towards raising awareness and research around the effects of Sepsis.
The teams that entered this year consisted of C+A plumbing and Heating, Safeguard Glazing, DemCom, Stirling Maynard, L4, Travis Perkins, Accio, MHA, Dalbergia and Burmor. Without these teams entering, the event would simply not be possible, and we look forward to welcoming them all back next year. Lots of fun was had despite the weather not being too kind throughout the day.
The event was supported by some wonderful vendors once again, including Jackalope Joe and former employee Pete Boekestyn - a familiar face to some, who was King of the Grill providing Burgers and Sausages for the crowds who braved the weather.
We look forward to hosting the event again next year!
