Construction = career goals!
Encouraging the next generation to consider a career in construction is an ongoing aim within the industry, and key to that is providing them with the right tools and advice they need to consider the built environment as a future career goal.
Apprentice Quantity Surveyor and Anglia Ruskin Peterborough student, Ciara, Quantity Surveyor, Megan, and Senior Housing Development Manager, Phil Murton from client, Accent Group, recently attended an interactive careers day at the new university campus. The event, organised and hosted by Morgan Sindall, opened the doors to 7 schools from across Peterborough to get involved in an interactive competition designed to change perceptions about a career in the construction industry.
The students were divided into teams and separated into job roles to complete a set design challenge. With the help of an experienced professional for each role, they got to grips with what the job involves, the opportunities and routes to reach that goal, and their role in the design and build process.
Ciara said of the event “Students didn’t realise you could do a degree apprenticeships without A Levels, so there were plenty of good conversations about potential career progression, and different routes into the industry. The students were really engaged, and their final presentations were diverse and impressively comprehensive.”
